ENGINE70 STUDIOS TAKES OVER THE KITCHEN SINK!
April 2, 2025, Santa Fe, New Mexico—There will be a new recording studio in the heart of downtown Santa Fe this month, with a new owner … sort of. In April, 2025, the recording facility at 528 Jose Street, currently known as The Kitchen Sink, will have a new name. Current co-owner Tim Schmoyer will be taking over as the sole proprietor—rebranding the recording studio as Engine70 Studios. “I’ve kept the name dormant for the past ten years but will be bringing it back to life this spring!”
—Tim Schmoyer, Engine70 Studios Owner and Engineer | engine70studios.com
Boston transplant Tim Schmoyer has co-owned The Kitchen Sink Studio with long-time Santa Fe resident Jono Manson since 2015, providing full-service digital and analog recording. Schmoyer and Manson are committed to supporting one another in all of their respective future endeavors. As part of this change, Jono Manson is constructing a new, smaller mix and overdub room in Santa Fe. More details to come.
“This is a completely amicable reconfiguration of my business relationship with Jono Manson, and he will continue to work at the studio, guest engineering and producing projects for his current and future clients. I am very excited about this transition and plans are in action for an Engine70 Studios Open House early this Summer!” —Tim Schmoyer
Constructed in 1989, as Stepbridge Studios, during the golden age of analog recording, this unique recording studio is among the best designed facilities of its kind in the state of New Mexico, and neighboring regions. The spacious live room, control room, and isolation booths have all been designed to exacting standards—adorned with thick Adobe walls throughout. All in all, it makes for an amazing recording experience.
Engine70 Studios is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and provides modern technology and high-quality gear in a comfortable and inspiring environment for musicians, bands, soloists, and more. A vast majority of gear currently in this popular downtown studio will remain. “Of course, there will be some changes here and there,” said Schmoyer, “but Engine70 Studios will remain the creative, relaxed space that musicians have come to know, love, and expect.” The studio will continue to offer professional engineering, mixing, mastering, mobile recording, and live sound engineering, with new offerings / services to be announced.
Tim Schmoyer began his musical life playing violin, piano, and trombone, however he is a drummer at heart. His career began in earnest in the early 1990s when he moved from Buffalo, New York, to the New York City area to join the now legendary, straight edge, hardcore band Up Front. During that time, he toured internationally, and life on the road galvanized his musical foundation. Tim also spent ten years as front of house engineer for Blue Man Group Boston, while also working live sound at many Boston area venues, including The Middle East, The Paradise, and Great Scott. During this time, Tim would find himself recording his own bands—either in a practice space, or in a garage or basement. Soon, bands that he had managed sound for at venues in Boston, Massachusetts, started asking if he would be willing to record their band. Thus, was born Engine70 Studios. Tim provided engineering and mastering services for numerous Boston area bands and solo artists. His own musical interests have always leaned towards the hard-core punk, metal scene. However, as a recording and mix engineer, Tim works over a wide spectrum of genres, always serving the music and bringing out the best in each recording project.
